Sebastien Tellier - La Ritournelle

A truly beautiful track. A full orchestra that soars, some fantastic drum playing, underpinned by just perfect, subtle piano. At least half the track is simply this combination - it sounds pretty much magically magical even before the bass playing and lyrics kick in.

Alot of Music Reviews at the time compared this to Massive Attack's "Unfinished Sympathy" (calling it "Unfinished Sympathy part II") .. which is praise indeed, and rightly so.

Check it out, its reet speshul' (awful single cover though.. doesn't he look like Ringo Starr / Jesus ) but he talks just like a gentlemen..

Sounds Like: Flying. With an orchestra. and a drum player. Over the atlantic. at dawn. in love. "Unfinished Sympthy pt. 2"

I'd have to say that they hyped it up TOO much comparing it to Unfinished Sympathy...

I really liked it but it didnt live upto my expectations after hearing it be described as that, to be honest.

I think the lyrics spoilt it slitely too, they seemed abit harsh for how soft and light the track was.

Still an awesome song though, going to have to check this dude out some more!

Alot of people say his other stuff is really, really crap, but then the others say its awesome.

No idea really, but theres one of his tracks on the Lost In Translation soundtrack - a kinda meandering background relaxing track that bumps along, nothing stand out brilliant.

His MySpace genre description is:
"Pop / Electronica / Afro-beat"
which is confusing as hell.

Saw him play at Big Chill, well actually started too, when i woke up somebody else was on. La Ritournelle was superb, what else I have heard is, quite frankly... shit.
